Patterns of Conflict, Paths to Peace
VOLUNTEERS

July 20, 2006. The Conference is Over--Now What? ....continued. ....At Anna's home in mid-June, as the conference was fast coming upon us, many volunteers expressed the eagerness to establish some kind of Calgary IPRA Chapter. Others talked about a celebratory outing.

This note is to encourage some organization of ourselves. We can do this by using our lengthy list of volunteers, but a more efficient way might be by making use of this web-page
www.ipra2006.com\pages\volunteer.htm or joining the 2006 email list if you haven't already: ipra@ipra2006.com   In so doing some exchange of views and plans for what we might do to strengthen the heritage of IPRA in Calgary, Alberta and in Canada can be contemplated: on-line blog; Yahoo discussion group; celebratory functions; attracting others to this intelligent peace endeavour; local participation in IPRA; website changes; collecting and distributing valuable papers.

21 June 2006. Last Minute Tasks List. As we come down to the wire there are very specific tasks with which you might see your way clear to help us. The following chart indicates some of the gaps where volunteers are required--whether it be hospitality, drivers, handling distribution of conference materials. etc. Please see where you might fit. We have a system which rewards volunteers with free attendance at a session or more of their choice. ...for more.

June 8, 2006 Anna's June letter to the Volunteers is posted here.

IPRA2006 in Calgary is looking for people who would relish billeting international visitors to our city during the week of the conference: June 29 to July 3rd.  Billeting makes coming to Calgary affordable for many of our visitors particularly those from overseas.  Many would not otherwise be able to come to Canada and to the conference.  Billeting is, as well, a perfect opportunity for both hosts and visitors to share ideas, views and cultures. If you think you would be interested in opening up your home, group or community to help accommodate any one or more of our visitors please e-mail us at:  volunteer@ipra2006.com

Related Billeting Tasks Include:  helping us identify others in Calgary and area who would billet conference visitors
assisting us in broadcasting our need for hosts
                                         matching requests with appropriate locations

Do You Have Other Interests or Talents You Wish to Share?

IPRA2006  requires individuals who would assist in ushering people around the UofC Campus between the conference sessions.  We also know that several delegates may require wheel chair assistance from time to time.

Are you someone with administrative or organization skills who could assist in co-coordinating volunteers, or volunteer tasks?

Are you someone with internet and e-mail proficiency who would be willing to aid our leadership team, or assist with mass mailings?

Are you someone with community contacts who can help us continue to link community events, hospitality, and accommodation offers?

A Larger View as Time Moves On

Our good friends in Vancouver who are sponsoring the World Peace Forum also have an interesting list of volunteer tasks.  Do have a look and if you see a task on that site that you would like to tackle in the Calgary context please let us know at IPRA2006 by emailing us: volunteer@ipra2006.com

We look forward to welcoming new volunteers!
