Patterns of Conflict, Paths to Peace

ABOUT CALGARY

With a population of nearly a million persons, Calgary has become a recognizable economic and political force in Canada. Although much of the city’s wealth came from the cattle industry it is now rooted in the  oil and gas industry, an engineering and production enterprise with an intense capacity to instigate global change.

The city illustrates the ideal of the cultural mosaic, with active community groups of various ethnicities and backgrounds.

Calgary sits on the vast Canadian Prairies, nestled in part within the unique foothills of the picturesque Canadian Rockies just an hour's distance away. The city enjoys the largest network of bicycle and walking paths in North America - 635 kilometres of pathways, with an additional 260 km of byways on city streets and over 70 bicycle/pedestrian bridges.

Conference attendees will have ready access to this expansive mountain range known as the Rockies, Here they will discover hiking trails for outdoorists of all abilities, and breathtaking views of the peaks, lakes, rivers and trails of the mountains. Visitors will have the opportunity to witness the magical experience of seeing wildlife, from bears to birds, cohabiting with people in a protected environment.
