July 20, 2006. The Conference is Over--Now What? In the past the Volunteers' page was devoted to such things as the necessary last minute tasks of our many volunteers. Now, with the conference successfully behind us it is time to celebrate the success of the conference itself and to give thought to post-conference matters. Perhaps one of the more attractive ideas was voiced one night at the home of our Chief Organizer Anna Brassard. ...for more

July 6, 2006 Two Calgarians to Represent Canada Internationally. Anna Brassard the IPRA2006 Conference Chief Organizer and skilled specialist in environmental design was elected by delegates at the recent conference to the International Peace Research Association (IPRA) Council on Monday, July 3rd. Anna will sit as the lone representative of Canada on this prestigious body. Wek Kuol, a city of Calgary Community Development Worker trained in law and social work was appointed to the equally prestigious IPRA Foundation which reviews and funds small peace research grants, peace fellowships for female scholars, and travel grants to IPRA Conferences.

July 6, 2006 A Conference Dream Come True. The IPRA2006 Conference was a dream realized and a truly outstanding success story in almost every regard. Delegates were treated to the friendliness and approachability of Martin Luther King, III and the photo ops with Shall Sinha in his magnetic role as Gandhi. The plenaries and commission sessions drew energized local visitors along with full-time delegates. And, particularly to those new to his creative thinking, Johan Galtung, the father of peace research, was downright inspiring.

Scores of academic papers featuring highly significant research into Patterns of Conflict and Paths to Peace were the backbone of the conference's success. Yet, there was plenty of music, dance and Peace-Fairy magic as well. The IPRA t-shirts and blue-denim Filipino conference bags were an added pleasure. A huge vote of thanks and respect is due Anna Brassard and her team of dedicated and courageous volunteers.

It is hoped that this website might, at least for a time, continue to inform you by incorporating papers, presentations and pictures from the conference. If you are one of the many persons who missed the conference or parts of it, for whatever reasons, please return to this front page for the sights, sessions, and sounds of the successful conference as well as announcements about IPRA , its commissions, and, of IPRA2008.

February 19, 2006 E-mail from Anna Brassard to IPRA Supporters

With the Biennial Conference fast approaching, an IPRA update is past due. The delays in communication have been prompted by the necessity to regroup, evaluate IPRA’s financial options, and focus on arranging the structural details of the Plenary and Commission sessions. November’s David Suzuki event was successful in terms of attendance and raising awareness about IPRA – it was less successful in the financial realm, running at a loss of roughly $500. This debit raised concerns as to whether it would be desirable or even possible to go forward with the Speakers Series and perhaps the conference itself....for more.
